Tour de France Stage 16 Gallery.
What a dramatic, sometimes traumatic first day in the Pyrenees. First, we had a farmers’ protest that stopped the tour for a while, particularly after a zealous policeman managed to include the peloton in his pepper spray distribution.
Then we had Phil Gilbert scoring a perfect ten with a dive off the side of a mountain (he remounted and finished the stage, but we are hearing he won’t start Stage 17).
finally, our predictometer was on course for a famous victory, inside the final ten kilometres, when Adam Yates binned it while leading eventual stage winner Julian Alaphillipe.
The good news is tomorrow will be even wilder: just 65km long, but with thousands of metres of climbing… this is where the GC battle will be blown to bits. Can’t wait…
