What a day!
The 9th stage of the 2018 Tour de France will go down in history as one of the classics, riddled with intrigue, drama and sporting excellence that rivalled any stage we have seen in decades.
In John Degenkolb, it found a deserved winner (his years-long comeback from a terrible crash has been painful to watch), and in Greg van Avermaert, the Tour has a Yellow Jersey who is not afraid to race and risk.
PLUS – we had a South African in the day-long break: Reinie Janse van Rensburg rode like a star.
What a treat it all was to watch (except the abandonment of Richie Porte, with a broken collarbone… on a flat, smooth road long before any hint of a cobble).
Let’s allow Cor Vos’ cameras do the rest of the talking.
